Dairy products are the most regulated foods you’ll ever consume, because the dairy industry is the most regulated in all of agriculture. Milk is tested several times at the farm and during processing to make sure it meets government safety standards.
The Oregon Department of Agriculture works with licensed dairy farmers to adhere to provisions of the Federal Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. These standards regulate milk production, sanitation, transport and pasteurization. By law, milk sold at retail must be pasteurized to eliminate potentially harmful pathogens.
